With more than 100 acts the line-up for this year’s SPOT Festival will soon be complete. But before we get that far, it is now time for a new release of acts that includes super tight club rock, Oriental bubblegum pop and loads of singer/songwriter music.

On the 25th of April Copenhagen trio WhoMadeWho released the album “Knee Deep” via the esteemed German label Kompakt. Over the last years WhoMadeWho have been one of the busiest Danish live bands abroad, where the band have accumulated a large fan base in numerous European cities. Furthermore, the trio have toured in Australia, the USA and South America and have played with as diverse acts as Daft Punk, Crystal Castles, Franz Ferdinand and many others. In other words we are talking about an extremely experienced band for the festival line-up. Doubtlessly even the most stiff-legged individuals among us are bound to loosen up when WhoMadeWho go on stage at SPOT and play their great rock tunes, super-tight funk and danceable disco.

Emma Acs will also drop by the SPOT Festival. She recently released her debut album “Champagne”, and indeed there is plenty of room for bubbles and partying in her universe.

If you ask Emma Acs to put a label on her music, she describes it as “Oriental bubblegum pop” – a fictitious genre characterized by a tight acoustic guitar, an abundance of percussion and a wealth of different strings such as mandolins, sitars, and 12-string guitars. The 19-year-old artist has indeed more than one string to her bow!

Singer/songwriters at SPOT
Johnny Cash? Well, no, but Ashig Qurban – the Iranian equivalent of The Man in Black. Ashig Qurban plays raw, clattering and authentic Azerbaijani folk music. A man of the people he sings and writes about joy, sorrow, war, courage and love. Seeing him with his saz and his cool charisma and honest attitude, you understand the comparison with the American country legend. It is Ashig Qurban’s second time around in Aarhus and he is definitely a “must see” at this year’s SPOT.

Ashig Qurban is part of the singer/songwriter stage at the SPOT Festival, which this year features eight artists of various nationalities, styles, etc. Another one of these artists is young Xander, who is not just a bit of fresh air on the Danish music scene but also an exceptionally gifted composer, songwriter and producer. His songs span over several genres but always with the good tune at the centre.

In addition to the two artists mentioned above, the singer/songwriter line-up also includes Danish Elou Elan, Il Tempo Gigante, The New Spring and Ida Wenøe (Boho Dancer) as well as Icelandic Helgi Jonsson and Swedish Anna von Hausswolff.
