The SPOT Festival reveals the first six acts

On their way to the practice room before SPOT: The Malpractice
On their way to the practice room before SPOT: The Malpractice

SPOT debuts for The Malpractice, Iceage, Dad Rocks!, Asbjorn And The Strange Ears, Thulebasen, and Some Speak of the Future – music that points in several directions.

The SPOT train has been set in motion and we can now reveal the first six treats for the SPOT crowd. All six acts are first-timers at SPOT, but apart from that they have very little in common. Thus, with punk, future rock, light-as-air electronica, amorous crash pop, melancholy indie and folk pop already represented in the line-up, the festival, which this year takes place on the 27th and 28th of May, looks to be just as varied and diverse as the previous years.

The punk band Iceage has been talk of the town since they making their debut with the album “New Brigade” in January this year. The album spawned cries of joy and lots of stars in most reviews. The young Copenhageners seem to herald a new golden age of Danish punk.

Aarhus-based outfit The Malpractice has also announced their arrival at SPOT. The band is Johannes Gammelby’s solo-with-friends project. Previously the incomparable multi-talent Gammelby was the maestro of Strumm and I Am Bones. And still has another project on the side – the neo-grunge band Beta Satan.

Among the really new faces we find Asbjorn and the Strange Ears – which is the alias of the very young yet very confident indietronica artist Asbjørn Toftdahl. Another rewarding acquaintance to be made at SPOT is Some Speak of the Future whose melancholy vocal harmonies from the two lad singers go straight for your heart.

Thulebasen belongs in a completely different world. The critically acclaimed trio plays ambitious and avant-garde future rock that at the same time manages to seduce the audience with catchy pop tunes. Finally the charismatic Icelander Snævar Njáll Albertsson a.k.a Dad Rocks! is also going to bring his acoustic folk pop to SPOT.
