Arvikafestival recently stated: "We want to reach a 50/50 distribution and be involved and contribute to a more equal society. We want to book more female artists, not because they are women, but because they are awesome artists. Gender has nothing to do with booking bands and we are not talking about quotas. Our focus is to book good artists in an equitable program and to break old patterns in a male dominated industry.” Head of Arkivafestival, Viktoria Lindén, songwriter and writer, Helienne Lindvall and anthropologist, Dennis Nørmark, will discuss the issue music and gender.

Helienne Lindvall
Helienne is an award winning professional songwriter, musician, and music and media writer for The Guardian. Born and raised in Sweden, she moved to New York City in her early twenties where she lived for six years, working as a session singer, recording artist and performer. After relocating to London she signed a publishing deal with BMG Publishing Scandinavia, collaborating with other writers such as Jörgen Elofsson (Britney Spears, Il Divo, Westlife), Steve McEwan (Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood), Phil Thornalley (Natalie Imbruglia, Pixie Lott), Ghost (Robyn) and Steve Booker (Duffy, Sugababes). The Guardian recruited her to blog the X Factor in 2007, which led to her weekly blog, Behind The Music, going – as they put it – “behind the glitz and glamour to expose the grittier side of music”.

Viktoria Lindén
After several years of volounteering at different levels within swedish Arvikafestivalen, Viktoria Lindén was designated as Head of Festival in january 2011. Devotion to music along with an eagerness to battle injustices have been the most prominent driving forces in her life, leading her not only to an involvement in several fields of the swedish music scene, but also to creating public opinion through jagvillhabostad.nu, a network that aims to fight discrimination of young adults on the swedish housing market. The combination of the two notions go well along the goal of Arvikafestivalen in contributing to an equal society - mainly regarding the explicit ambition of achieving an programme that is balanced between the sexes, set in 2010.

Dennis Nørmark
Dennis Nørmark, MA. in Anthropology and external lecture at University of Aarhus, is one of Denmark’s most known and used anthropologists. As author to the acclaimed "Det Virkelige Menneske" (The Real Human), on the foundation of human nature, and as a columnist and reviewer for Morgenavisen Jyllands Posten, he is known as an outspoken, but precise, analyst of societal and political subjects. Dennis Nørmark is also a busy lecturer and is known for his appearances on both TV and radio, where he participates with his large professional knowledge on people and culture and not least for his ability to disseminate his knowledge in an entertaining and intelligible manner.
